Power shortages that gripped many parts of the country in recent months could herald1 the worst energy crunch2 in years amid growing concerns that economic growth may suffer.

近幾個月來國內很多區(qū)域出現(xiàn)的電力短缺預示著將可能出現(xiàn)數(shù)年來最緊急的能源危機，有關經(jīng)濟增長會因此受阻的擔心也在加劇。

在上面的報道中，energy crunch即能源危機，指由于能源提供短缺或是價格上漲而影響經(jīng)濟，一般涉及到石油、電力或其他自然資源的短缺。能源危機一般會導致economic recession（經(jīng)濟衰退）。Crunch在這里的意思是（突發(fā)的）不足，短缺，比如credit crunch（信貸緊縮），supply crunch（提供緊張）。

自3月份以來，在部分省市開始出現(xiàn)power cut（停電）和blackout（斷電），緣由是price control（價格控制）、surging demand（需要上漲）和a drop in hydropower production（水電產量降低）�，F(xiàn)在國內為知道決能源危機，正在大力推廣新能源，并計劃建設new-energy model city（新能源示范城）。
