湖光秋月兩相和，潭面無風鏡未磨。

遙望洞庭山水翠，白銀盤里一青螺。

　　The blended light of autumn moon and lake is serene,

　　The water surface like a mirror dim lurks in view.

　　The hill and the surrounding waves, from far when seen,

　　Resemble a silver plate crowned with a snail of blue.

　　在秋天的夜晚，天上一輪皎潔的明月，湖水風平浪靜。在月光下，湖面倒映著銀色的月亮，烘托出朦朧的夜色。前兩行詩描述了天上的月亮、月光映照下的湖水以及水天相接的景象。接下來描寫洞庭湖的全景，以及在月光籠罩下的君山。

　　On the autumn evening the moon shines clear and bright; the lake lies calm and still. In the moonlight the smooth lake reflects the silvery moon and is lost in the peaceful, misty beauty of the night. The first two lines of the poem describe the scenes of the moon in the sky, the lake in the moonlight and the fused sky and water.  

　　詩人對湖水栩栩如生的描述，就像一個電影長鏡頭，讓讀者仿佛身臨其境。后兩行詩描述了湖泊像銀盤中的寶玉，君山在月光籠罩下顯得更加郁郁蔥蔥。這生動的語言充分顯示了詩人對大自然強烈的愛，全詩表達了倡導人與自然相和諧的主題。

　　Next appears the entire view of the lake with the green hills and the fine sweep of blue waters blended like a long shot as shown in a film, for the moonlight makes Jun Hill all the more green and luxuriant. The next two lines depict the lake like a gem set in a ring. The varied views and the vivid figures of speech in the poem fully show the poet's intense love for nature and at the same time reveal the great harmony between man and nature.
